A Trio of Further plays, Royal Ascot Day 1, Tues 20th June 2023

Good afternoon folks

What an opening day! Very competitive and tough looking but racing we all love?

A trio more plays for tomorrow are as below with the reminder of how I play these meetings and the tips already sent.

Starting with a 50 point bank (average of 10 per day) hopefully we get off to a flyer!

“As previously stated, this will be treated as a ‘Festival’, these bets are kept separate from the main account and I will be personally throwing targeted darts at a few biggies! With the volume of racing and studying coming up over the next 5 day’s it’s sensible to do that and write up’s will be kept to a minimum but rest assured these selections are picked in the same thorough, hard working way/manner as always!

Nothing more for Day 1, back throughout the day tomorrow for Wednesday’s action.

3:05 Ascot

SPANISH PHOENIX– 1/4 Pt Win @ 85/1 boosts but 80/1 generally

ZOULO CHIEF – 1/4 Pt Win @ 100/1 boosts to over that on offer generally

Gonna play these two as well, both could be anything and we have had an 150/1 winner in the past. Newbury maiden form does well here and Balding is a cracking trainer.

4:20 Ascot

INDESTRUCTIBLE– 1/2 Pt Each way @ 50/1 3 places generally

Another massive value play IMO Chased home Chaldean in Acomb at York and Champagne at Doncaster for Michael O’Callaghan at 2 so not much to find. Took his form up another notch when making a successful reappearance for this yard in Craven at Newmarket but made no impression in 2000 Guineas there since where soft ground and the 2 week short turnaround caught him out.

quote…Indestructible will run in the St James’s Palace on the first day. He obviously won the Craven and looked fantastic and, again, was another who didn’t like the ground on 2000 Guineas Day. He was wheel spinning throughout the race and to be seen at his best he needs to top of the ground. If it is good ground or better at Ascot, I would say that he be a bit of a dark horse. He is training very well, and Karl holds him in high regard. It looks like one of the races of the week, but he will be going there in A1 shape.

5:00 Ascot

CADILLAC – 1.5 Pt Win @ 10/1 bog generally

2nd in it last year, will love the ground and won very well LTO, strong form against horses we have been following and tie in with the favourites yet more than double their prices.

2:30 Ascot

BERKSHIRE SHADOW– 1/2 Pt Win @ 33/1 generally

TRIPLE TIME– 1/2 Pt Win @ 36/1 boost Will Hil, 33/1 6 generally

A very tough race and I couldn’t side on one strong each way so I will attack the two short favourites, who do have negatives, with these two 4 year olds. Triple Time could be anything but 1st time out, Berkshire Shadow loves this straight stiff mile so that’s the way I’m playing it.

3:05 Ascot

HAATEM– 1/2 Pt Each way @ 40/1 4 places generally

Phoenix of Spain colt who confirmed Goodwood debut promise when forging clear in Bath maiden. Lost all chance at the start when 2¼ lengths third to Bobsleigh in class 2 event at Epsom (6f, good to firm) 18 days ago but made smooth ground to have a chance which was a big run. Remains open to tons of improvement and I think his odds are way too big.

3:40 Ascot

EXISTENT– 1/2 Pt Each way @ 95/1 6 places Bet365, 100/1 5 places generally

Tipped LTO if you recall, he ran a cracker against these and the price is ludicrous IMO! Suited by good or quicker ground, he was 66-1 when never sighted here last year (drawn on the wrong side!) but has more going for him this time round after a useful fourth behind Dramatised and Equilateral at Haydock (5f) in May when not getting much of a run.

5:00 Ascot

CALLING THE WIND – 1.25 Pt Each way @ 14/1 5 places Bet365, 12/1 6 & 5 places generally

A horse I have tipped previously that has done us a few turns, he absolutely loves this track and ground (Has run well in all of his five races at Ascot, including when runner-up in the 2m5f Queen Alexandra at this meeting in 2021 (soft) and close third in it last year (good to firm) and travels very smoothly. Ran a cracker on softer ground than ideal in the Chester Cup, that should have brought him on nicely and surely, on form with a cracking claimer aboard, goes very well indeed!

6:10 Ascot

CHILLINGHAM– 3/4 Pt Each way @ 25/1 5 places Unibet boost, 22/1 5 places generally

Chillingham, who is another lightly-raced sort that has won three of his five starts so far. He is trained by Edward Bethell, who is enjoying a fine season and proving himself very adept at placing his horses, and it was hard not to be impressed by Chillingham’s return win over a mile and a half at Thirsk. That race was run in heavy ground and he landed good support in the style of a horse who is well and truly on a progressive path, drawing clear in the closing stages like a horse who will relish this extra two furlongs.

The return to a sound surface won’t be a problem (has won on good ground) and he may actually appreciate it better. Indeed, this is a much tougher test, but he shouldn’t be underestimated at all from 7lb higher given he had much more in hand than the bare margin suggests at Thirsk (he was eased close home) and is a rapid improver regardless and one to keep in mind for the season.
