A Trio More Tips, Sat 1st March 2025

Evening folks

A trio more below, along with the ones already sent and their writ ups. All have trainers who do well at the relevant courses. Nothing further for Saturday.

14:55 Kelso

CAPTAIN BUTLER– 3/4 Pt EW @ 33/1 Skybet 4 places, 36/1 boosts Hill/Lads, 33/1 generally (may get bigger as drifting)

This winning machine looks big in this after bolting up at the track. I know it’s not an exact science but he looks very well treated in this based off of his comfortable beating of Slugger who is now rated 130 (won his last 3) and whom he was giving 13lbs!! so effectively putting his mark on 143 which is way clear in this. To bolster the theory, the trainer is brilliant at this course with her hurdlers and boasts an impressive 3 winners & a 2nd from JUST 4 runners when putting Craig Nichol up. He may not be up to some of the guesswork improvers but to my mind should be nowhere near the outsider of the field given how strongly and smoothly he travels also so I couldn’t let go unbacked at a huge price.

14:20 Kelso

JOCOOKER– 1/2 Pt EW @ 12/1 Bet365, 11/1 generally

15:05 Newbury

OUT OF OFFICE– 1/2 Pt EW @ 18/1 Bet365 3 places, 16/1 3 generally

15:30 Kelso

OLD GREGORIAN – 1/2 Pt EW @ 36/1 boost Lads 5 places, 33/1 5 places generally

WILFUL – 1 Pt EW @ 16/1 5 places generally

Wilful ran a very eye-catching race at Ascot last time, cruising into the lead before finding the trip too far. The winner has franked that form again and he is Top on RPR’s off that run. The now jointly run stable are 2 from 2 here, BOTH handicap hurdlers!! and although the yard also run Tellherthename (should also be bang there but prices long gone) the trainers son takes the ride. He has been backed from 25’s into as low as 6’s in places so lets hope for a CHANGE one of our big gambled position/selection goes in!

Old Gregorian found the trip and track too sharp LTO but will be well suited returning to Kelso. He is 3 wins & a 2nd from 4 runs to date racing left handed and indeed is an eye-catching 2 wins & a 2nd from 3 here!! Low weighted, younger horses have a cracking record in this so we have a very god pair to go to war with in my opinion.

15:45 Newbury

TEDLEY– 1/2 Pt EW @ 30/1 Lads boost 5 places, 28/1 5 places generally

I can see a big run from this likeable, consistent sort. Carries a featherweight and has some strong form. Goes well for the capable 5lb claimer who has an excellent 40% SR for the yard in handicap chases which included two 2nds from 2 rides at this track. Cracking course run, giving the very classy rival that day a real scare so all in all looked overpriced in this IMO and worthy of a bet.

17:07 Doncaster

CAVERN CLUB– 1 Pt EW @ 12/1 Bet365, 7/1 & 13/2 with some books but only a handful priced up so should get a lot bigger later on.

Smooth traveller, has been waiting for better ground having run two good races at Cheltenham against better horses than these in a higher grade. Goes well fresh, he has run here on the flat where he was narrowly beaten over 1m 4f after looking all over the winner. Trainer has a near 35% SR at this course so with Sheehan looking an eye-catching booking also, should go very well indeed.
