Evening Folks

A couple of poor runs there, EBT’s Guard yet again! It’s nowhere near that bad at Ascot but it is what it is. further selection for tomorrow are below, along with the ones already sent and their write ups. Possibly more to follow will update.

3:00 Ascot

EMBRACE – 1/2 Pt EW @ 22/1 Skybet & Betfred 4 places, 20/1 generally

Has it to do on ratings but she ran some eye-catching races for us last year on soft ground. She has conditions to suit and Spencer keeps the ride from Goodwood, a race that was ‘Hot Form’. She was most unlucky in that race that day so again, at a good price for a stable going well, worth chancing.

5:00 Newmarket

MADAME DE SEVIGNE – 1 Pt EW @ 9/1 Bet365, 11/2 generally (may get bigger when more priced up)

A horse that I backed LTO here over 1mile, she was given one of the poorest rides I have seen in a long long time by none other than Luke Morris. She should have won that day IMO and was indeed unlucky the time before that at the York Ebor Festival. That form has worked out ridiculously well so with Murphy now taking over the steering, looks to have a good chance here.

1:30 Newmarket

CANOODLED – 3/ Pt EW @ 33/1 4 places generally

A horse we have followed before and has done us a turn or two, hopefully she can do it again. I was gutted to miss her at York when she beat us into 2nd with Bint Al Daar but that was her 1st try ever at 1m 2f and she did it nicely. She patently hated the ground at Newbury LTO and never had a chance from the rear. She loves Newmarket and Ed Walker has a brilliant 2 year record with his handicappers here, winning with 4 from 11, 6 placers! She looks worth another go at the trip, especially at her favourite haunt, and although a tough looking fillies handicap, she is more consistent than a lot of the ‘fairer sex’. With 4 places on offer, the price seemed way too generous to let go so worth backing IMO.

4:35 Longchamp

ALMAQAM – 3/4 Pt EW @ 17/2 boost Lads 3 places, 8/1 3 places generally

3 year old’s have won 2 of the last 3 running’s which may be significant. Ed Walker is a cracking trainer and was very, very bullish in the Weekender about this horse as he needs the forecast soft ground. He also has a brilliant record when teaming up with Ryan Moore (in great form himself) so with 3 places on offer, rates a decent bet IMO.

3:00 Ascot

RUSSET GOLD – 1/2 Pt EW @ 22/1 boost Will Hill, 20/1 generally

4 year old’s have a good record in this and he runs this C & D well,. Trainer in good form and I like the jockey booking of Rodriguez. He surely could have stayed up North but he rides this tack exceptionally well. In fact, the past 18 months he has ONLY had 4 rides here and his last 2 were a Royal Ascot winner and a narrowly beaten 2nd! It’s a tough race, but he finished in front of old friend Vadream at Newmarket 2 runs back yet is 3 times the price so at big looking odds to me, worth chancing.

3:35 Ascot

AKKADIAN THUNDER – 3/4 Pt EW @ 13/1 boosts widely 5 places, 12/1 5 places generally

UNITED APPROACH – 3/4 Pt EW @ 20/1 Bet365 5 places, 16/1 5 places generally

Both caught the eye over the course LTO and have nice low racing weights for testing conditions. We know O’Meara is excellent in handicaps here, so is James Tate and both warranted interest IMO at good value EW prices with the favourable place terms.
