One More Tip, Saturday 4th March 2024

Evening folks

A tremendous, if not ultra, ultra competitive days racing. It’s tough on days like this to limit selections/outlay but some hard work, solidly researched selections to go to war with. Some speculative but they have been picked for a reason so fingers crossed. One additional selection is as below, nothing further for Saturday.

5:50 Newmarket

CAROLUS MAGNUS – 3/4 PT EW @ 16/1 B.O.G Corals & Lads 5 places 16/1 5 places generally (could get bigger if you’d like to wait)

A very well handicapped horse, like this track and has some excellent Class 2 form from last year, namely the Cambridgeshire here last Autumn where he was running on strongly. Trainer and jockey don’t venture down South here very often and have a cracking record when doing so. Hopefully he is ready to go on his seasonal debut and doesn’t need the run. If so, he has the form to go very well indeed.

4:30 Goodwood

APLHA CRUCIS – 1 PT Win @ 12/1 generally

A 4 year old who placed for us in the Spring Mile at a big price at Donny, loves the ground and this course. He is reunited with his winning jockey, Jason Watson, who is 2 wins & a 2nd on him from 3 rides to date so must go very well IMO

1:45 Newmarket

WALLOP – 1/2 Pt EW @ 40/1 P.Power & Betfair 5 places, 28/1 5 places generally (drifting should get bigger)

A 4 year old that has already shown a good level of form and looks interesting. I thought no way should he be the rank outsider of the field after a pipe-opener over C & D on faster than ideal ground from the rear in the good 6f handicap at the Craven meeting that is already working out well. He pushed the likes of Noble Style and Mill Stream close over C & D here as a 2 year old and they are now rated 110+! Off 95 he looks nicely treated and is bred to be a better 4 year old. The pace is high in this so again I am banking that is the place to be and I also like the fact Rossa Ryan gets aboard for the 1st time. He is excellent from near the front and has a superb record for Richard Hannon (two in this) over C & D with 3 winners & 6 placers from his last 8 rides. All in all worth a poke.

2:20 Newmarket

STAY WELL – 1/2 Pt EW @ 50/1 Bet365 5 places, 40/1 5 places generally

A bit left field and may blow out but goes well fresh and has some classy form. The pace looks high in this so could be ideally berthed to track that on the stands side rail and if that scenario plays out, he can outrun his huge odds and worth a poke given the place terms on offer.

2:55 Newmarket

TEES SPIRIT – 1/2 Pt Win @ 16/1 generally

SIGNIFICANTLY – 1/2 Pt Win @ 16/1 generally

A chance taken win only on both and we have tactics covered with one from the front and hopefully the other tracking. This is a jump up in class for both but has we have seen before, in form sprinters can bridge that gap better than most so worth playing the pair I thought.

2:40 Thirsk

RACINGBREAKS RYDER – 1 Pt EW @ 10/1 Skybet 6 places, 10 5 places generally

Bred to be better as a 4 year old, this strapping son of Fast Company was gelded over the winter, probably due to his tendency to pull hard/over race. It may have improved him significantly as he very much caught my eye in a strong looking Spring Mile at Newbury, held up before making late gains as if needing the run/some other early season target. That should have sharpened him up and he showed his best form early on in his 3 year old season. It is very interesting his trainer brings him here as he has an incredible record. In the past 5 years, he has brought JUST 7 horse here achieving a remarkable 4 wins & 3 narrow 2nds!! with his last 3 ALL hitting the target! Racingbreaks Ryder has also been dropped a generous looking 3lbs for that latest run and has a good draw in stall 10 as I like them coming wide and late. My only concern is the jockey booking but all in all I think this has been the target and he can run a big, big race for us.

4:10 Newmarket

YOUTHFUL KING – 1 PT Win @ 12/1 Bet365, 9/1 generally

Tipped the last twice, he has been running eye-catchingly well in slowly run races from impossible draws. We have seen again today, front running is a great tactic on the Rowley Mile so I hope he reverts back to those tactics he used to ALWAYS adopt for his winning claiming jockey. I hope the ground doesn’t deteriorate too much as he may be begging for the line over this trip but I’ll chance at a value price and fingers crossed it’s 3rd time lucky for us and he makes all.

5:15 Newmarket

PRESSURES ON – 1/2 Pt EW @ 14/1 5 places generally

Ran very well over C & D at the Craven meeting, he missed the break before running on strongly to be just denied. Slowly away, that run was even more meritorious than it looked as it was against the front running bias. Again the impressive Rossa Ryan returns to saddle after bolting up on him at Chelmsford two runs back so with the Ed Dunlop yard going very well also, a decent EW bet if the draw doesn’t inconvenience?
