Saturday 6th August 2022 – Finalised

Good morning folks

Nothing further doing on a tough looking day. Full list of selections below.

1:35 Ascot

CRAZY LUCK– 1/2 Pt Each way @ 10/1 4 places Bet365, 12/1 & 10/1 generally

Very unlucky LTO at Goodwood, ran a cracker at this meeting last year when just touched off. Trainer has good record over C & D and the jockey draw looks to be kind so all in all a big run should be in the offing for an in form horse who is 1 from 1 over this 7 furlong trip.

MAKE MY DAY– 3/4 Pt Each way @ 20/1 4 places Skybet, 18/1 (boost to 20’s with Will Hill) 4 places generally

Tipped the last twice, hopefully 3rd time lucky!

Cruised into the lead turning for home but just as soon as it looked like he was going to be a serious player in the finish he just as quickly backed out of it a struggled to see out the finish, ending up a well-beaten 15.5L 10th of 14. I thought he was worth a dart at this given his decent previous track form but ultimately he just didn’t stay this trip – now 0/3, 0p over further 2m – and he also possibly isn’t quite up to Class 2 + level – now 0/3, p at Class 2 + level.

Until the stamina limitations became an issue he did move through this like a horse that was on a decent enough mark at present and he’s worth looking out for under the following…Turf races | C3 or less | 2m or less | Good to Soft or quicker = 221112 (3/6, 3p – all 3 career wins)

5:05 Ascot

STERLING KNIGHT– 1/2 Pt Each way @ 14/1 4 places generally

Bolted up over C & D earlier in the season, he was luckless LTO at Windsor before finishing strongly against older horses. This stiffer course suits, his trainer is hot form with 3 of his last 4 runners winning so worth a punt back against his own age group.

3:00 Haydock

CERTAIN LAD– 1/2 Pt Each way @ 33/1 4 places generally

Looks over-priced given his liking for this track and cut in the ground. The booking of Ben Curtis means business as he has ridden him to victory 3 times, 5 places from 8 rides. Can go well.

His trainer Mick Channon has won this race with 9/1 and 14/1 shots in the past and it’s interesting to see connections having another shot in Group company after not being completely disgraced when ending up mid-pack in the John Smith’s Cup won by the reopposing Anmaat (similar terms) at York last month.

Certain Lad wasn’t unlucky not to finish in the frame but he didn’t get a smooth passage at all after racing far too freely in the early stages, and he was mad keen and not really letting himself down on the ground when eighth after a bad start in the Wolferton Stakes the previous month and should get a strong pace to chase courtesy of Marie’s Diamond, Peter The Great and a couple of other prominent racers including Grocer Jack himself, and he looks a big price to go well if the jolly fluffs his lines.

3:35 Haydock

RISING STAR– 3/4 Pt Each way @ 14/1 4 places Bet365, 12/1 4 places generally

4 year olds have a great record in this and Atzeni rides the C & D better than anyone so another to go well.

4:40 Haydock

LIAMARTY DREAMS– 1 Pt Win @ 17/2 Will Hill (boost to over 9’s if avail) 15/2 generally

Has posted two cracking efforts over C & D and ran as well as could be expected at York LTO. Looks good value back at this venue and should go close.
