Two Further Tips, Saturday 18th May 2024

Evening folks

Another good day, Tropez Power a bit disappointing given the way he travelled as usual but we got the place spoils and only Andaleep ( I was bigging up Buick but a poor ride given how races were run ALL week) let us down. It’s always tough and and tomorrow is equally if not more competitive. With that, two further tips are below, along with the ones already sent and their write ups. I don’t envisage anything further this evening for tomorrow so that’s all.

4:10 Newbury

MITROSONFIRE – 1/2 Pt EW @ 22/1 4 places generally

Based on today’s evidence this prominent racer looks ideally berthed drawn high. I like the jockey booking (26% Win, 40% place SR for this stable ALL TIME!) and this horse has been contesting much classier races than this but the key for me is the sliding handicap mark to 84. Off 85 or below, he is 8 handicap wins, 3 further places from 15 runs!!

He has been shaping better than the bare form of late and, if he does return to his best which is an if, he is a big, big price here in this.

4:45 Newbury

AALTO (N:B if a non in this switch same stake to him in the Newmarket 3:10 7/1 4 places) – 1 Pt EW @ 12/1 Paddy & Betfairsportsbook, 4 places, 11/1 4 places generally

A strong travelling 4 year old, very much caught my eye on his 1st start of the season at Newmarket where he made smooth headway on the flank of the whole field against the track bias. He thrashed his group and should definitely strip fitter here. He is off a lovely racing weight and Kingscote, who was on fire today at this track, keeps the ride rarely doing this sort of weight. For Ian Williams, the jockey is 2 narrow 2nd’s from 2 rides ALL time over C & D so well drawn to track the pace which should be on the rail again, should run a big race for us.

1:50 Newbury

MAXI KING – 1/2 Pt EW @ 40/1 Paddy & Betfairsportsbook, 33/1 generally

A rapidly improving 4 year old (they do well in this) I say speculative as he is stepping up from Class 2 handicaps but I felt well worth a poke against some disappointing types in this. He is 3 from 3 for this yard, hacking up on each occasion and who knows where the ceiling of his ability lies. The trainer/jockey combo are 4 from 12 in the past month and 1 from 2 at the track together. A strong traveller, he blow out, but IMO I thought he was well worth a poke at a massive price if the ground doesn’t dry out too much and scupper him.

2:05 Newmarket

VENTURE CAPITAL – 1/2 Pt EW @ 28/1 boost Lads 3 places, 25/1 3 places generally

A useful front runner, notably the stalls are on the stands rail for this meeting I envisage that he could bag that and has we always see at this course, going from the front proves fruitful. The trainer is 2 from 7 in C & D handicaps past 2 years and teams up well with Kevin Stott (1 from 1 in 30 days) so at a value price, I was hopeful the above scenario would play out, especially with the favourable 3 places on offer.

2:40 Newmarket

DARKNESS – 1/2 Pt EW @ 18/1 boost Hills 4 places, 16/1 4 places & 14/1 4 places generally

FINAL WATCH – 1/2 Pt EW @ 28/1 boost Lads 4 places, 25/1 4 places generally

Both have cracking records over C & D and if the stands side is utilised as I think it might be, then both well drawn so again, at value prices, I thought it was worth playing the pair.

3:00 Newbury

INTO BATTLE – 1/2 Pt EW @ 22/1 boost Lads 4 places, 20/1 4 places generally

A likeable chestnut colt, I think he has been let in lightly here off a mark of just 82, thoughts strongly echoed by his trainer Ed Walker who has a cracking record of 3 winners from 9 runners with his 1st time handicappers at this track! Luke Morris is not a jockey I overly like but he does a light weight and he himself has a good record in Newbury handicaps so I thought well worth chancing.

3:35 Newbury

WITCH HUNTER – 1/2 Pt EW @ 70/1 boost Lads, 66/1 & 50’s 3 places (drifting)

A massive price and could look silly in a Group 1 but there were enough reasons to chance given such a massive price. Firstly he loves Newbury (should be unbeaten) and bolted up for us here in a Group 2 if you recall over 7F. The mile is the unknown but there looks lots of pace on in this which should suit this strong finisher. Sean Levey gets on tremendously well with him and has recorded the following form line of 3,5,1,2,2,1,2 from 7 rides aboard him! The straight track plays to his favour, looks well drawn based on today’s evidence and the ground suits. Inspiral is all class buy I don’t think Gosden’s horses are in form at all (lots running poorly & he states himself she isn’t well drawn in 1) and the ground (drying up rapidly it seems) MUST be a question mark over Big Rock and with not a lot standing massively out amongst the rest, well worth chancing IMO although as stated it is a Group 1.
